Entertain your dark side with poet Louise Warren, who will be reading from her new book ‘Poison’, a collection of poems that explores the chemical, the botanical and the medicinal – all deadly. Hear stories of unfortunate foragers, embittered spouses, exploited workers, professional poisoners, and more.
From Arsenic to Strychnine, Belladonna to Venom. Discover what goes into poison and how they are used or misused. Hear about their effects on the body and cause of death.
This talk and poetry reading will be illuminating, macabre, engaging, informative and theatrical!

Louise Warren is a poet and writer.
Her first collection A Child’s Last Picture of the Zoo won the Cinnamon Press debut poetry competition and was published in 2012. A pamphlet In the scullery with John Keats also published by Cinnamon 2016. In 2018 she won first prize in the Prole Laureate Poetry Competition with her poem The Marshes which appears in her pamphlet John Dust illustrated by John Duffin published by V.Press in 2019. Sometime, in a Churchyard, is a collaboration with the artist Charlotte Harker published by Paekakariki Press October 2022.
