At Yuletide we do all we can to brighten our lives in the darkest month of the year. We might bring evergreens into the homes as we enter the time of frost and snow. We put up sparkling lights, eat, drink and try to make merry, but our ancestors knew much of this was in the face of grimmer folklore and the harsh realities of winter.
