Make hay (metaphorically speaking!) with The Apothecary’s Daughter as she discusses the meaning and rituals behind the summer solstice, whilst bringing to light a selection of her favourite seasonal plants, and those with particular connection to the magic of midsummer.
St John’s Wort, Chamomile, Lavender and Sage are just a handful that will be harvested and celebrated. This is a time to purify and connect with the spiritual fires within, and to gather one’s protective mantle in preparation for the darker times ahead.
Maria Vlotides began The Apothecary’s Daughter after completing a degree in Herbal Medicine at the University of Westminster in 2007. Having initially read PPE at Oxford University during the dark ages, she found herself hanging out with increasing regularity at the University’s Botanical Garden, fascinated by plant beds and the magic held within leaves and buds. She had a clinical practice until 2016 and has since continued to focus on teaching and writing. Sigil Magic – discover the power of sigil magic with this two session intimate workshop for a small group by chaos magician Julian Vayne. You’ll learn about the range of sigilization methods including the creation of bind runes, digital sigils, hypersigils and the methods of the sorcerer Austin Osman Spare. Over two sessions of 1.5 hours each we will explore the history, theory and practical application of this accessible method of using imagination to create change in the universe. Expect approachable open source magic and plenty of practical skills that you can develop in your own way. Participants will be invited to launch several sigils of their own during the course.

Thanks for joining us for some Sigil Magic! Please ensure that you have writing and drawing materials with you for both workshops. Pens, pencils, paper will be fine. Ensure that some of the sheets of paper are loose or can be removed from the sketch book or whatever you’re using. Try to wear comfortable clothes for the sessions as we are likely to do a little bit of gentle stretching to help us prepare for the practices. Please bring a glass of water to both sessions. Learn how to make and use powerful sigils, in this two-part workshop with chaos magician Dave Lee. Starting with Austin Spare’s introduction of free-form sigilization, we’ll explore a variety of approaches to making sigils – including bindrunes, collage, graphic mashups, automated sigil generators and the idea of the artwork as hypersigil.
We’ll also cover the audial equivalent – mantras, and talk about how to get the best phrasing of your intentions. We’ll take a peek at the theory behind such magic and you’ll learn a few simple but powerful techniques for entering appropriate extraordinary states of consciousness.
Dave Lee is a magician, breathwork coach and writer. He has spent over four decades exploring consciousness and changing realities, using techniques that include meditation, magick, psychedelics and energy work. He is a leading light in the Chaos Magic organization the Illuminates Of Thanateros and a Master of Rune-Lore in the Rune-Gild.
